SS8E1 The student will give examples of the kinds of goods and services produced in Georgia in different historical periods.

          Goods and Services

          Each time period of Ga has offered different economic opportunities for the State but this is a quick summary

          1700s – Agricultural Base – was to be a colony of England in which exotic products such as silk and spice were grown and exported to support concept of Mercantilism But Ga began growing Rice and Indigo for export instead.

          1800s – Cotton Kingdom Period. Ga grew cotton and expanded slave ownership due to the large numbers of slaves required to work the fields.Cotton was grown along the coast and down the Fall Line which opened up the interior of Ga for Settlement. Some Cotton Mills began to form along the Fall Line.

          1900s – Ga still has an agricultural based economy but industry is beginning to take over the northern part of the state thus creating the image of “2 Georgia's” . Atlanta becomes a huge city in which millions of jobs are created in the technology field, transportation and airline industry.
